Chasing a lamp error message on the dash and it seemed as though on the RH side of trunk the red section bulb was burned out. I removed the molded lining from the trunk lid and was shocked that there doesn't ever seem to have been a bulb installed in that area. The knockout is still in place. See pics.
As you can see the LH side has 2 bulbs installed but the RH side has only one. Even the wiring is different - 3 wires vs. 2 on the RH side.
Very odd if that came from the factory like that. Possible it could be a repair piece from a diff model I suppose.
If I wanted to add it in would it be as simple as adding the 3rd wire and knocking out the plug and finding a bulb holder?

My CLK 430 has the same missing bulb with knockout still in place. I don't believe knocking it out and adding a bulb will help as there is now ground to that section of the bulb to complete a circuit. I had a similar issue where the bulb was causing it to cause an error when going into reverse I had to clean the connectors to ensure it was properly making contact. there is a possibility of getting it to work if you bridge the circuit but it would act like the white light instead of being independent. most likely to get it to run the same as the left side you would need to chase down the green/white ground from the wire harness and splice into that.
