Replacing Headlamps?

Replacing Headlamps?
One of the headlights on my 1999 CLK 430 is out. Not the big one, one of the smaller ones (not sure what exactly they are called).
Wondering how hard it is to replace it. Is it just a matter of replacing a bulb in the light or does the whole fixture need to replaced? Any tips on cost etc. for fixing it would be much appreciated.

I would assume you are refering to what is called "city lights"
Its the little oval closest to the grill. I would assume you just
need to replace a bulb if the glass is not cracked. For your own
sake, dont word your question the same way when you go to
the dealer, otherwise they WILL sell you a whole headlight assembly.

On my 99 E320 I removed the back housing (held on via wire brackets), then took needle nose pliers to gently turned the plastic base for removal. Wires still connected to it so you now have wires, mount and bulb in your hand. Fitting is wedge fit. Wiggle and pull old bulb out. Insert new bulb. Reassemble.
(I had extra Philips Blue Visions but have given them all away on the Benz boards. They came free if you bought H1 or H7 from Powerbulbs.com. Nice because the light was whiter and closer to the HID look....vs the anemic yellow)

TVR Cerbera 4.2 & Mercedes CLK 320
I did this recently. Unfortunately the "free" sidelight bulbs from Powerbulbs are W5W and the ones for our UK-spec CLK 320 are H7W, so I had to buy them separately. Method is simple: remove the rubber weatherproof thingy, then unscrew the bulb and connector like a bayonet. Remove old bulb, put in new one, do everything back up. However, the one on the RHS of the car (looking from in front of it) is a real pig to do unless you've got fingers like ET.
