Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum!!! I recently purchased a 2001 CLK 230K and the dealer installed a non OE catalytic converter on which we were not aware of. Scum bag
I need to replace the cat, can anyone suggest a non OE cat which is very good that I can install on my car. Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Sucks to hear the dealer half-assed prepping the car for a quick sale. I do know that berg werks sells performance cats that run between $500-1000. You'd have to get a price quote from them as they don't list the price. Never have heard feedback from anyone who has installed one, but if they flow more air, they might be worth a few ponies...
Check out Bergwerks at http://www.bergwerks.com/exhaust.jsp#per
Best of luck

Hi bbearden,
thanks for your info.
Yes, the dealer is a scum bag!
I have emailed BergWorks but they have not replied to me. I have noticed that most members in the US on this board own 320's and 430's, do they sell the 230K in the US??? I believe the 230K uses a single Cat, but most e-part suppliers only do after market cats for the 320 and above. My car is a grey import, do u know whether Merc. Germany can replace my cat for free???
thanks

I'm not sure how it works but Mercedes Benz USA has the 7 yr/ 70,0000 mile warranty on the emissions system so if its covered under the US warranty then you should be able to get a free cat privded you have exceeded that mileage.

Yeah, I thought that was the case. It still might be worth it to take a trip to the dealership and ask if they will replace under the emissions warranty. Cats at the dealership at going to set you back damn near 1k. At that point, it makes sense to consider a performance cat from Berg for that kompressor engine. If its going to set you back that much, you might as well get some performance out of the deal. Anyone out there bought a performance cat from Berg or bought a performance cat from elsewhere?

thanks iosmart for informing me that the US does not sell CLK 230K
thanks bbearden, I think I'll email Germany and see if they will do it under warranty. I've asked one of my friends in Germany to see if she can get me an OE cat on the cheap - fingers crossed
The sad thing is I had the AA (Automotive Association) do an inspection on the vehicle before I paid my cash of $38.5K US for the CLK
As you quite rightly suggest, I think I should buy a performance cat if I can't get the OE cat under warranty. THANK U for all your HELP bbearden!!

Check out evosport
I know evosport has magnaflow cats just match the inlet and the outlet and weld them on and you should be all set. You might have to make provisions for some sensors but im sure any muffler shop can do that.
