How to add MP3 capability

So I really want to add MP3 capability to my 99 CLK, but I don't really want to spend an arm and a leg to do it. Anyway to do it without either replacing the head unit or using a tape adapter?

Hey Danny, do you know how to make an aux input? Is the stock head unit prewired?

if you have comand, then, its easy to add in aux-input. if using the stock cassette deck, not too sure if its possible on the w208 headunit... although, its been done on the w203 headunit here-1 here-2

another option is, if you are using an ipod, there are several wireless fm transmitters...

I'm not sure what you consider an arm & a leg, but I think $450 just for an auxiliary input is a little high if you're on a budget. Consider that you could buy a brand new aftermarket head unit for $100-200 with an aux input on it, and $5 for a wiring harness so it all just plugs in. If you're concerned about the "look", there are inexpensive head units out there that don't look too out of place in a CLK.

So it seems "not replacing the head unit" and "not spending and arm and a leg" are at odds.

yes, the ice link has always been an option... but you said, "I don't really want to spend an arm and a leg"

Yup, the ice is nice, but $400 is a lot for an aux input. Looks like an aftermarket head unit. Question: Will a single DIN fit flush in a CLK?

Wow, that looks like a great solution. What type of sound should I expect?

Didn't someone post a thread talking about some CKL's having a factory aux input inside the passenger's side glove box? Mine has some sort of input jack there.

Yeah, but only the cars with COMMAND have the aux-in in the glovebox.
