CLK 55 AMG vs. Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe

Which one do you think is better and why? If you could get a CLK 55 AMG or a Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe, which one would you get?

This has been discussed a few weeks back, but I'll try to give you my insight on your dilemma. The Porsche is a true sports car. The handling and performance of the carrera is spectacular. Another pro is that the Porsche comes with a manual transmission. As you know, the 2002 carreras have gotten a facelift and a more powerful engine. The exhaust note has also improved. the Porsche has also a better build quality.
The CLK 55 is maybe one of the best GT cruisers out on the market today. It is lightening fast, but not as agile as the Porsche. Another thing I noticed, is that the Porsche has no lag in acceleration.

If you want to have fun in a true sports car, pick the Porsche. My uncle owns the new carrera, and I could not wipe the grin off my face during the hour long drive. If you want a car that has awesome performance but at the same time can accomodate four passengers comfortably, get the CLK 55. Another thing to think about is that the next generation CLK is coming out next year.

They are really different cars. Go for the Porsche if you want a sports car. The CLK is great but a sports car it is not. I personally prefer the styling of the CLK. If you get the CLK you are probably going to want to do a bit of work on it (i.e. suspension and transmission). The lag that Sultan refers to can be eliminated by a good Mercedes tuner.

CLK55 VS 911 Coupe

Having just sold my 2000 CLK 430 Coupe for a 2002 911 Coupe I can tell you that no car is perfect..The CLK was fast ( remember I had a 430 not a 55 )..The CLk could sit 4 people, Had a trunk with back seats that folded down..I must disagree that the Porsche is a better built car than the CLK.My 911 with 1,500 miles has more rattles than my 430 coupe did in 22,000 miles..Now for the real debate..There is NO car on this planet that has the soul of a 911..None..The sounds from the engine, the steering feel, The shifter..and of course the body style..Seems alot of CLK owners trade up to the 911's..They are totally opposite cars with much different missions..One is Fast and comfortable with the edge towards ride quality..The other is fast with a hard aggressive ride that says push me harder..Both are great cars..I miss certain aspects of my CLK But I also smile every morning when I rev up the 911..Go drive both ..They are both great.
