CLK 430 Alarm chirp problem
I recently removed the wood trim piece that surrounds the shifter, window control switches and auto trunk release on the center console of my 2000 430 CLK. Once I had it unfastened I disconnected the wires from the ESP, window switches and the trunk release. After I re-connected the wires and re-installed the wood trim my alarm started making a constant low volume chirping noise. Sounded like a cricket Also the red indicator light on the trunk release switch constantly glows and though my keyfob locks and unlocks the doors as normal the parking lights on the exterior of the car no longer flash when I lock the car. I took the car to the dealer and they told me they could not find the cause and blamed it on my aftermarket stereo components. Their solution was to disconnect the siren for the alarm so that now when it is tripped all that happens is the parking lights flash. The audio system was professionally installed several years ago and these problems did not start until after I removed and disconnected the wood trim/wires. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can get the trunk release light to stop glowing and the exterior lights to flash and siren to work properly???

Suggestion....
Not sure if this will help, but have you tried to disconnect your battery in an attempt to reset the vehicle's system?
By the way, is your car silver? There is a car with the same description on Peter's website.

Xtc - yes it's silver. Some day I'll get a digital cam and post some photos. Is Peter's site another MB forum?
Thank's for the advice on the alarm. I tried that initially and it did not work but maybe I'll try again - nothing to lose.

Dumb question..
Dumb question, but did you recheck your wiring connections to ensure wires were properly connected...is there a possibility you could have crossed connections?
check out wheelexperts.com, under gallery section, customer's cars, and the second page under mbz vehicles. Might be your twin.

XTC - I will try to switch the connections. Your question is not dumb, if I did cross them way back then, the only thing dumb is me.
The pic is my actual car. It was taken while still owned by the prior owner. First thing I did was remove and never re-install the front license plate.
