Lowering Sugguestion, Please.

Hi,
I am thinking about lowering my 2002 CLK430 coupe. I am currently running 235/40R18 (18X8.5) Front and 265/35R18 (18X10) Rear. The car is currently sitting on stock suspension with 3 fingers gap all around. Tires are right on the edge of the fender or maybe stick out a little bit on the rear. The car does not rob at all right now. I am looking to lower it to 1 to 1.5 finger gap all around. My current option is H&R sport spring and Bilstein Sport shock combination. What spring pad should I use for front and rear if I want it to sit between 1 to 1.5 finger gap ?? Would it cause any robbing problems with or without passengers on the back seats with this set up ?? I was originally thinking about having the AMG suspension kit, but it turned out that the quote was way too expensive (nearly double) of the H&R and Bilstein set up. Would there be any excessive negative camber after lowering?? If so, how would I fix it ?? Please offer your suggestions and experience. Thanks for your inputs.

Sorry, I'm not really qualified to answer your question because I just got a 1999 CLK. I ordered some DPE R05 rims which are 19x8 in the front and 19x10 in the back. The wheels come in at about 6 weeks. I was told that if I lower the car I should not experience any rubbing, or may need to roll the fenders to make it fit. I'm more concerned about the rear wheels sticking out. I was told that the wheels could still tuck. If they stick out, I want to cancel the order. Since you have 18x10, does the wheels stick out? Is it noticable? or would you say it's more flush with the top of the fender. Please let me know as soon as possible. Thanks.

Hard to answer your question, as each persons fingers are different. You may have some slimjim fingers or some fatty butterfingers :P Best thing to do is to measure the gap of your fender to your wheel. Get that measurement and minus 1.5" (HR's will lower you 1.5"). As for me, I'm rolling on HR's and #1 pads all around for a total of 2" drop (I personally dont recommend going this low, but it looks tight). I have 19's and I can barely get any fingers in the front or the back, unless i angle my finger about 45 degree or so.

Thanks,
Rob

prieto007,
My wheels are stick out to the edge of the fenders (maybe a little bit out to Fenders depends on the angle of the view point). I don't have any robbing problems with 18x10 on the rear and I don't think 19x10 will cause any problem as long as you have the correct offset.

CLK430ROB,
I am meauring 2" + (0.1"~0.2") on all sides right now. Have you ever experience any robbing after lowering with or without passengers on the back seats ?? What do you think of the ride with Bilstien SP shock ?? Would it rob on sharp turns ?? Thanks in advance for your sharing.
