03 CLK500, 04 X3, No 07 GT3RS :(
It's pretty easy, you just need to use a little force.
1. Open the ashtray door
2. pop the shifter wood trim base out
3. undo the fasteners to pop out the shifter base from the wood piece
4. unscrew the plastic lock nut piece from the backside at the base of the knob.
It should slide right off at that point.

I have a similar question if you don't mind sharing the info. I have carbon fiber interior trim as well but on the other post I saw your car's interior and noticed you have carbon seat covers and head rest. They look amazing, how much do those cost? Thanks in advance!
