Tire size 255? 275?

Anyone knows what the largest size tire you can install on the CLK500? I have a 03 CLK500 with the 17’ stock AMG rims. I don’t want to change rims or have any clearance problems.

On my BMW M roadster I could only move up one size without creating a problem with the traction control, any larger I would needed to also increase the fronts as well. I would think the MB computer would also have a problem as well.

2005 CLK500
Hi Gary:

I just purchased a 2005 CLK500 with 17 inch AMG wheels. I recently replaced them with 18s. My rear tires are 255x35x18 and they look perfect. Wide enough at least. My friend has wider tires (265x30x18) and they look really nice as well. Unfortunately, he had to do some clearance work to make them fit. Your choice...

Thanks Joe,

I had looked at the 265's as well, but didn't want to do any mods for fit. Now to find 255's that will grip & not make too much noise, and will last over 10K miles. Over 50% of the performance tires turn to crap after a low percentage of use. I was not happy with the Pilots on the M roadseter or the CLK.

Gary:

The tires i installed are Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. They're great on dry and wet surfaces and have minimal road noise. Their tread wear is above average as well. One problem though, they're expensive as hell. Paid about $1,000 for all four.

Good luck!

Joe
