Powerchip

I am very interested in adding a Powerchip to my 2004 CLK500.
Anybody have any input or experiences?

I want to do it. But 750 seams a little steep. 500.00 would be perfect price.

Where did you see $750? Powerchip is charging $990.

Ive heard on the board that some people think its great. But if your looking for something less expensive, you might want to try sending your ECU to a tuner and have them flash/tune your ecu. Its cheaper and produces similar results.

Sorry. I ment 950.00. Too steep. All they do is flash your computer. Not worth 950.00. 500.00 would be perfect.

Kleeman chipped the 112 engine in my C 320 with very good results. I'm happy with the work they did, and they handled things very professionally.

May I ask what tuners? Sending in your ECU for less than $900? And what is the increase on this? I haven't done much research, but just briefly looking around, the cheapest I saw was a couple grand. I may have been looking at a different thing however.

The companies that sell ECU upgrades at a higher premium have done a lot of R&D on our MBs. The companies that sell ECU upgrades at a more economical rate usually buy/copy softwares from overseas.

what's the impact

if i "chipped" my 320, how much more power will i notice?

i've been considering one of the renntech "packages"...but the jury is still out. the packages get expensive fast. the 3.2 bore for 10gs, according to renntech, w/b like having the v8.

Slight improvement in horsepower and much improvement in throttle response. I have the powergold 91. Originally, I only saw 8 rwhp improvement but they redid the program based on my dyno and there was a big improvement based on feel. However, I have not dynoed it sice then and I plan to dyno it later this weekend but my wheels have changed and it will be a different dyno so not sure if it will be valid anymore. The powerchip group should give you better gains than speedtuning or upsolute. I think all the chip manufacturers get the same program and post the same numbers which are inflated but at least powerchip and perhaps renntech, kleeman, brabus do their own tuning to make it even better.

I think the chip was 900 and something after tax. Luckily the installation was done at their headquarters in Santa Monica which is close to where I live so in and out in a couple hours. Nice thing about Powerchip is they will reprogram it if your dealer updates yuor chip and also, free upgrades within the warranty period which is 5 years maybe? I don't remember exactly, but you can buy an extended warranty. Also, if you add exhaust or headers or something down the line, I think they will change the program for you. As for pictures, I've been meaning to post some but I've been holding back until I get my Carlsson kit and quad exhaust setup installed, but I may post some earlier if you want.
