2006 CLK350
2006 CLK's & Euro's
The base price of the 2005 CLK500 is $62,200
The prices of the 2006 CLK models are shown at this site
http://www.germancarfans.com/news.cf...ercedes/1.html
The CLK 500 cabriolet is priced at 64,380 euros ex works
64,380 Euros = $77,880.50 in US dollars, as of today, 6/26/04
The CLK 350 cabriolet is priced at 53,302 euros ex works
53,302 Euros = $64,380 in US dollars, as of today
Does anyone know what that would mean, as far as what the price of these cars would be in the US?
Also what does "ex works" mean; as in the sentence euros ex works?

Are you saying that euros ex works means excluding vehicle registration etc.?
I saw the pictures of your car - was anyone in the passenger seat (it looks like it a air bag was deployed)? If there was a passenger did anything happen to him or her or it? And to you also?

As for me, I was pretty alright, with only a slightly aching neck for about a day, but otherwise I'm ok.

CLK 200 KOMPRESSOR Elegance
I wouldn't worry about trying to figure out the prices from a Euro market to the US> They change prices significantly from one continent or country to another. Just look at the prices here in Ireland where a "BASIC" CLK 200KOMPRESSOR costs €60,000 !!
You still have to add leather and auto to that as a bare minimum !!

Bloody hell.. that is expensive.
A basic SLK here in the Netherlands cost about €65,000 before anything else. My car alone would cost €89,000.
You got 19% BTW (Vat) and then BPM (luxury tax) here. BPM is 25% I believe or something like that. Even so, it makes cars in NL flaming costly as hell!

Yeah I heard that about NL !
We have the factory price plus VAT @ 21% then VRT @ roughly 30% !!
In fact the pre tax price here in Ireland is one of the lowest in Euroland, making it attractive for people to buy here and export !

VAT = Value Added Tax
VRT = Vehicle Registration Tax
The last one there is a joke. Basically when Ireland joined the common market they had to drop "Duty" on the car imports, free trade and all that. This was a serious loss of revenue for the Government so they introduced a sneaky tax which meant that you could buy the car without the tax but they made it illegal to drive it without registration plates........................for which they charged you another 20% of the cars market value !!
They made sure the garages collected this money before you got the car, it was added to the invoice price. That 20% has crept up over the years and a higher rate was introduced for cars over 2.5 litres I think. As far as I recall there are now two or three bands, under 1.9 litres, over 1.9 and over 2.5 !
This is why cars with smaller engines are vastly more appealing to the Irish motorists, so a CLK200 KOMPRESSOR with 163BHP and a 1.8 ltr engine is far more appealing that a CLK240 2.6 with 170BHP ! The price difference between these two cars is just over €6,500 !! :v
Oh and just to make things even more depressing they charge VRT for EVERY extra you get, metallic paint, wheel upgrade......whatever !
The double whammy is that the VRT is placed on top of the price AFTER the 21% VAT has been added ! Double taxation is illegal you know....................but not in Ireland !!
Are you guys all sure you want to trace your roots back here......................you could end up with a tax bill !!!
