Exclamation Beep for Locking/Unlocking

Hey! I always wanted this feature, and voila! I got it! Here's the backstory.

I have a 2004 CLK 500 with Keyless Go. When I would do the remote lock and unlock, the lights would flash, but no beep. Well, I found out my alarm was malfunctioning. It would go off by itself, and I'd get a phone call from TeleAid, telling me so. It went off all night two nights ago and drained my battery. I called Service, and the guy they sent out said that the factory alarm like I have is notorious for having the wiring or contacts rust out, and the alarm thinks the wires are being cut, so it goes off. Well, he jump started my car and I took it to my local dealer this morning. Within an hour, he changed out the whole alarm module (with horn), and I got the car back.

Lo and behold, when I lock and unlcok now. There's a beep! It's not the horn, but it's the alarm speaker. It beeps once for lock, and three times for unlock. I'm so happy!

There's a couple of old and dew threads on this already...

Here's a more recent one, including a video link from one of the members of the W203 section. It's the Netherland settings.

I think this is different from the Norweigan setting or whatever it's called.. as I have the beep for locking and unlocking AND my Panic feature still works.. I've seen people say that it's one or the other, but not both.. I've got both.

That means the SAM module in the rear hasnt been coded. It is running in "new from box" default mode. It needs to be coded and then set to Alarm = Netherlands.

Whats a SAM module, and why does it need to be coded? I like the beeps, and I like having the Panic feature.

So long as everything works fine then its no problem but did you check your fuel guage and rear lamps (obviously with a second person).

The coding is to make the new fuse box run perfectly in the car.

2003 CLK 500. Bose, Sunroof, Heated seats
Yup, same thing happened with my '03. It was particularly bad when I couldn't even get it to turn off and had to drive home with the thing blarring all the way! The mobile service guy came and replaced the whole thing in my driveway (he had to remove the right front wheel and liner to get at it). When he was done, he asked me if I wanted the beep activate or not. Now it beeps 3 times on unlocking and once on locking. It's a nice feature to have so you don't have to look back to see if the lights flashed. Nicely muted compared to domestics that use the car horn to chirp.

Do you have a choice to have the beeps or not?

I don't think so. I used to have an alarm system with my older Honda, there are 2 buttons in the remote, one to beep and the other one does the same thing with no beep.

I think so. According to the tech that installed the new alarm, he could have programmed it to beep or not.

There's just one button to lock, and one to unlock, so you can't choose for the beeps to happen on a case by case basis. However, as previously mentioned, the beeps are very quiet.

When the guy came out when my battery died, I asked him to just pull the fuse or disconnect it, and he said that there wasn't a fuse for the alarm anywhere accessible, and the unit itself is really difficult to get to. He motioned towards the fender and told me that they hide the alarm differently in each car (I doubt that) to deter thieves.
