Anyone know the cheep way to unlock the CLK 500 Speed limit???
My car is Clk 500 2003 W209 US version that have the speed limit of 125 mph...
anyone know how to unlock it?? any cheap way?? I don't mind about more horse power just want the max speed of about 250 km/h like the euro version that's all...

You can ask your dealer to have the speed governor removed. I'm not sure if they will do it, but I have heard of some dealers doing that after the customer signs some release forms. If you do manage to get the governor removed, make sure to keep in mind the speed rating of your tires.

I think they were w rated tires, going up to 168. I'm not sure because I swaped them out with a 19 in set.

dont worry about tires, its not like ull b running at 150 for half an hour straight. ive hit 150 and my tires were in the worst condition, ripped sidewall, worn almost to the cords and 1 of the rims was bent on the inside.

I'm pretty certain its not 125, don't the German manufacturers have a gentleman's agreement for 155? Kinda like the japanese w/ the hp...

I was under the assumption that pretty much all models were locked at 135mph, except the AMGs which are locked at 155mph.

My 2003 CLK 500 tops out at 135 mph.

All the non-amg models are limited to 130mph in north america. The clk500 are capable of doing a much higher top speed (over 155mph) if the speed limiter is remove.

No, thats not true, V-6 non AMG is 130 and all V-8s are 155 (not SUVs of course)

I dont think that the cost of unlocking is the issue. I think 90% of the cost is making sure you have the correct rims, correct tyres a proper adjustment to the camber of the wheels to cope with the speed .........

I'm sure that this is only done in the USA. Not in Europe, it is as fast as the car can go, until it reaches 155mph and then it is limited. So the smaller engined cars like mine the CLK 280 can just reach 155 but others cut out.

Drive 15mph for 2 hours and then drive 100mph. You will be amazed how much faster it seems.
