Dunlop Wintersport M3's. I don't feel a loss in dry performace and it's less expensive than Blizzaks. They're also rated better. I wouldn't go with steel rims, I don't think they have any, and why would you put those on a benz? You could go on ebay to look for another set of wheels, and as cadet said, tirerack has sets on sale, too.

You really shouldn't have different tires front and rear, it should be the same kind at all 4 wheels.

Winter tyres

You have confused me know , original set up was 255/35/19 front & 285/30/19 rear , these winter tyres are the best match to what already came standard with the car , are you advising that winter tyres should not be mixed about ?

Depends on your car.
It's find to have a wider setup, if that's the kind of rims you have, although it's not really suggested.

Yes, the different brands you have front and rear. Different kinds of tires front and rear will give you two different amounts of traction, which will be dangerous in the snow. Having a staggered set of wheels also isn't the best idea. Also, the thinner the wheels are the better, the wider they are the more they act like a plow through the snow.

2006 Edition CLK 280 Coupe
**Update**

Well, after this post I went to the closest dealership to my office in Amsterdam Netherlands. Mentioned I wanted steel rims etc and they offered me a package for €704 (ex. tax) for the wheel, tyres and fitting.

2 days later, they were prepared and ready to be fitted. However, I have the 'Sports Package' so I have AMG brakes on the front and these steel rims dont fit anymore.

I then was told that the only way to have Winter Tyres is to buy the correct size tyres for my wheels at a cost of €1280 (ex. tax). I debated this yesterday and today thought, oh well... and went to order them.

The service desk in this dealership said 'We can save you money wait a few minutes'....

To make this make sense, here are my tyre sizes:

Front: 225/40/R18
Back: 255/35/R18

The guy returned and said I could put the 225/40's on the back too. I wasn't quite sure about this, but said ok and decided to make a few phone calls in the meantime (order doesn't mean I gotta pay for them).

So being British and in the Netherlands, I called a few dealers back home. To be totally certain, I called my dealer in my home town of Leeds, who said NO WAY do that it's dangerous. So I thought see what another says, so I called the dealership in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Once again, I was told the same thing.

Now as you can imagine, I was worried. So I called Meredes HQ in the UK. I spoke to a nice chap who put me on hold for a little while whilst he did a little digging for information. When he returned he spoke in a rather shocked way. He said 'in the strongest recommendation, do not put the front size tyres on your rear wheels. If you travel over 50mph and put any sidewards pressure on the tyres. If you do, you have an extreme risk of the tyres ripping themselves off, as they dont fit the rims'

Now as you can imagine, I'm rather shocked to say the least. I wouldn't like to be the chap who told me to get 4 of the same tyre tomorrow. I'm going to do more than rip his head off. Potentially risking my life with this!!
