Angry AutoCar magazine Road Test

The 23 July 2002 AutoCar magazine contains a road test of the new CLK320.

They said that the brakes were poor. 70mph-zero in 51.4 metres (dry) and 60mph-zero in 3.4 seconds (dry). They also said they experienced 'smoke pouring from the discs'.

This sound pretty poor, and just a little worrying (my CLK arrives in 5 or 6 weeks) - does anyone have any comments on this?

In the august issue of CAR they talk about the brakes and say:

"Luckily the brakes are more than up to the job, briging the CLK to a surprisingly rapid halt.."

nothing to worry about...

Then again, the article also said '£34,950 buys you a very basic CLK320 indeed. No CD Player...electric seats...'

So, they didn't bother to even look at the standard spec sheet for the UK model: headlamp wash, climate, electric seats, rain sensor wipers, auto lights, cruise etc. CD player is a no cost option.

don't worry. If the brakes suck, upgrade to brembo or something.

there are always solutions to a problem.
