Help the new guy :)

I've been a fan of this forumn for about a year now, ever since i received my clk500 last year. I havent been able to post many threads or help answer many questions and sorry .

I've seen the amazing jobs you guys/gals have doen with your clks. Personally i need help, mainly on where and how to. I'm senior in high school so i really dont have too much cash.

Projects: 1.change the inner headlights to blue(i have the bi-xenon).
Where can i find the bulbs? Is there a specific amount of watts i need or which look better? Is installing them very difficult?

2. Which exhaust companies are realiable and not only sound but do well in performance?

3."GOTTA HAVE RIMS" i was thinking 18s in the front and 19s in the back. My cousin showed me these HRE 547 rims... but they're a bit pricey for me. I was wondering if there were any rim styles similar and cheaper but of decent quality.

P.S. I'll take any other useful info on tuning and adding mods.

i will be glad to help you with 1 & 2
1. last pic on this thread https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...=110368&page=2 (i bought the hyperwhite bulbs in RS Strauss around the block from my house its only 6 or 7 dollars....soooo worth it!!)

2. exhausts are costly but your best bet is a used one for example i have a muffler from a C55 AMG for sale... here is the thread and pics if interested (xtian230k also has a clk500 and he says they sound better and look great on his clk500!)
https://mbworld.org/forums/classifieds/120918-ft-fs-1-2-c55-exhaust-system.html

3. as for rims.... there are literally hundreds of different types best bet is the classifieds section in this forum.. lots of great deals..

About the exhaust, I would definitly recomend Eisenman. I have the Eisenman race exhaust, and it totally transformed my car. Some people think it is too loud at low speeds, but I love it. It makes my car much more fun and it gives a lot of attention. At low speeds, it is very deep. When you give it some gas (about 2000-3500rpm) it has a muscle sound. After that, the higher you rev the more amazing the noise gets. I love hitting redline.

As for the blue bulbs, I just went to a local customization/performance shop and they knew exactly what they were doing. The only question they asked me was what color I wanted. Other than that, they got all the info they needed and installed everything. Now, my turn signals, inner bulbs, and fogs are blue. It goes along nice with the 8000k white (it looks blue) aftermarket xenons they installed for me.

I called the dealer before I got the exhaust installed and they said it was fine. They said that as long as I don't touch the cats everythings cool. When I pull up to the dealer, all the service people come out and wanna rev it. I remember I was sitting down inside the dealership with my service adviser going over some minor issues with the car, and all I could hear were the guys in the garage revving my car. I felt if it made everyone happy and helped me to avoid problems, then they can rev it all they want (plus it sounded awesome to hear someone rev it).

And no, the resonator is not removed. I have been thinking about doing it. I'm not sure if its worth it or not.

my local costumization shops are mainy advanced auto parts or an auto zone.. those are 10 minutes away. I'm sure there are better ones in the larger neighboring city (there i go making things sound isolated lol)

Do it - it sounds better with the resonator removed and should only cost $30-50 to get done.

I think I'm gonna go for it...I just gotta find the time. Do you know the dimensions of the pipe they use to replace the resonator? Thanks.

Eisenmann exhaust install should be no more than a 1 hour labor charge

No offense but I think the stock exhaust on the CLK500 sounds great, nice smooth rumble.

There is no comparison whatsoever between the stock exhaust and the eisenmann. I used to like the sleeper affect of the stock exhaust, but I wanted more flash and was getting bored with that (IMO) whimpy sound for such a good V8 engine. Plus, I'm young and don't care if I make old ladies and soccer moms give me dirty looks. I have to say that if you are really into luxury and don't like the droning or head-turning attention, then it is not for you. If you want to hear the full sound of the V8, then the eisenmann is the way to go. I have the race exhaust, so maybe the sport exhaust is a good way to just get more V8 noice without getting significantly louder.

I've also heard about an exhaust (I think it is from the makers of eisenmann) that has a switch in which you can switch it to normal Silent Mode or F1 Mode at any time you want. I think that is the ultimate exhaust...but from what I remember, its supposed to be a lot of money.

About the resonator delete...should I just cut out the resonator and replace it with a pipe, or should I cut out more of the exhaust? Should it make any performance or sound differences? Thanks.

As far as tuning, I've heard of Brabus, Kleemann, and Renntech. Are there others and what are the pros and cons of the these 3 so far?

Sorry I was a bit busy and having pc probs and didn't see this thread - I think the guy used a 3" diameter pipe to replace the resonator. It eliminated the minor drone at highway speed and gives the exhaust a bit more rumble than it had with just the muffler.

The ballpark retail price for most bumpers is around $1-2k each. The Kleemann is around $1k if I recall correctly but is an add on and not a full replacement.
