This is probably a really stupid question and probably has a very simple answer, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. On my car which has the 7 speed auto, while using tiptronic I can only shift from gears 1-6. On my mom's S430 and dad's SL55, I can only shift from 1-4, they both have 5 speed autos. My only guess is that you can only reach the top gear when in D for some reason. Please help, this is a question thats just been annoying me and confusing friends who don't believe that I have a 7 speed instead of a 6. Thanks in advance.

D is the top gear.
So when you shift past your sixth gear, you get put into D, or your seventh.
