Question Really could use some help with the Winter tire question

Help! I have a 2005 CLK 320 and Merceds told me it is ok to use the 225 45 winter tires on all four weels. They said I would be able to use the same rims, but that sounds dangerous since the rear rims are an inch larger than the front. Another dealer told me to use different size tire just like I have on the standard set up. I guess the question becomes can I use the rear rims on the smaller front tires and go with 4 same size tires, or are new rims required, and what about different sizes on front and back for snow use? Also, do I go with the Michelin Alpine 2 or are Toyo just as good? Thanks

I split your post, move two of your threads, and merged them.

Please do not cross post. Give it time and someone will answer your question.

My opinion: Running 225/45 would be okay seeing how OEM is 245 in the rear. That's just a 20mm difference.

Thumbs up

I drive a '06 350CLK Coupe. I chose to use 225/45-17 Snows's on all 4 wheels. They work wonderfully. Much less hastle than trying to mach the rear size (245/40-17). The rim width difference between front and rear rims is negligible. Just don't use the rear rims up front! Of course, this advice pertains to stock size wheels. As many owners will tell you, go to the "TireRack" if you have questions or are looking for alternatives.

I have 225 in the front and 245 in the rear and I recommend it. I don't like that stretched look. Also, go with the Dunlop Wintersport M3's. they're the best value. They're great in the snow and you won't lose any performance in the dry.
