Question So, are we getting the CLK550 or the 450???

I've been told by some the 2007 CLK V8 will be the super sweet 385 hp (5.5) CLK550 or the 330hp (4.5) CLK450. Anyone know for sure? An MB dealer in CA said the E gets the 550 for sure but still doesn't know about the CLK.

If the 500 turns into the 450 there is not as much of a reason to wait for the 07's, but if the 550 is a reality, then the wait may really be worth it.

i dunno its a tough question and not to mention the 550 would have more power than the current 55 engine.... this may also bring up the question (if it hasnt been answered) if the amg version will get the same hp as the other models

From what I hear the CLK63 is "a go" and will be down about 40-60 hp over the E63, S63 etc...

In the past, the E normally got the same engines as the CLK except for the AMG versions ie E320-CLK320, E430-CLK430, E350-CLK350, E500-CLK500; but starting with W211's the E55 got the kompressor engine and the CLK did not. So I guess it's possible the CLK may get stuck with the 4.5 330hp engine due to what you'd mentioned about the power being so close if it got the 5.5 vs the current CLKAMG; but then again the new CLK will have the 6.3 so who knows. Although the 4.5 puts out 30 more hp than the 500 , it's still going to be percevied by those who aren't in the know, that the 450 is a lesser model than the 500. I remember back in the 80's when the 450SL was replaced by the 380SL, for the first year or so the general public was confused. Same thing happened when the 560SL was replaced by the 500SL.

I just hope that we get the 550; a CLK with 380+ hp will surely scoot!

You're right the 500 is pretty fast but imagine with 80 more hp! These car companies can really get us drooling...

550 V8 direct fuel injection +-480HP, just readed it, but for the new CL in 2007 not for the 2008 CLK
And almost forgot, the new CLK will have a new turbo engine from AMG, AMG is going to use turbos in their engines and abandon the supercharger :p
