I wonder how this burnout thing works... of course I am not going to do it but it doesn't hurt knowing how to..

it depends on your type of transmission.

With a stick, you press GAS and drop the clutch in one fast move.

With AUTO tranny you need to do the so-called 'power braking'. Put the car in drive. Hold the brake pedal down and slam the gas (while holding the brake). BTW, it's really not advisable thing to do, but I've done it a couple times on my old BMW

pour a little bleach down on the ground first then drive over it and then power brake - enjoy the show :

btw, you might want to had straight to a car wash afterwards, because the rear bumper will covered in burnt rubber

oh no, I m not going to do it.. I love my car way too much I just want to know how to do it, in case I got caught under heavy fire and I want to escape, I make some smoke and get away ...[that would make a good movie ] ehehe ...

though, may be I can try it in the beach and dig a hole with the back tires

this never worked in my 320..... the ! light comes on and the wheels stop moving press the gas harder and still nothing ....

you didn't floor the gas hard/fast enough

Like someone else said, hold the brake with your left foot. With the right foot you floor it and release the brake. Just make sure you have the ESP turned off.

if you release the brake, will it still be a standstill? or will the car go forward spinning the wheels?

I think once the back tires lose their grip on the road, they just keep spinning and you stand still... I think that's why most of the cars jump forward towards the end... but I am not sure...

Its a stand-still for a little bit. Usually, the back end slides sideways and I gotta let off the gas so I don't hit anything. Plus, I don't like roasting my tires. But yeah, the torque on the V8's are enough to do minor standstill burnouts.

Never tried it on a CLK320, but I still bet you got enough power to spin the tires. I dunno about the 200, I don't even know the specs on it. It also depends on how grippy your tires are and what the conditions are of the road. If the road is slippery, the tires should be able to spin very easily. Its better when the road is wet because you dont burn the tires and you can still have fun. For a real burnout, you gotta really roast your tires and you need some real torque to do that.

It is very possible in a 320

you have to enter the dyno mode first.
PLEASE BE CARE FULL WHEN THE CAR IS IN THIS MODE. IT MAY NOT BE SAFE OR GOOD FOR YOUR CAR TO DRIVE IN THIS MODE ALL THE TIME.

there have been other posts on this but here is how you do it.
finish reading through the directions first before you try this unlike i did

1. scroll through your menus on your steering wheel till you see the speed. turn off the car having the 0mph /0km on display.

2. insert key, leave in possition 0

3. turn key to position 1 (at this point you will see the Airbag light turn on)

4. while the light is on hit your odometer reset button 3 times (this MUST be done while the light is lit, if you miss it, start all over)

you will then hear a beep. scroll through your menus and you will find new settings (current voltage, dyno mode on/off, vin#, so on....)
I believe you switch the mode to ON, if i am not mistaken.

5. Then turn the key back to off (0 position) and then start it as you normally would.

6. Now you will see 3 malfunctions, which means your car is now in RAW mode. No computer systems like ABS BAS ASR...

kick down that accel. and have fun. You can hold the breaks if you don't want to move anywhere, but you can spin the wheels even without holding on to the breaks.

TO REVERSE the car back to normal mode:

1. scroll through your menus back to the On setting you changed. Turn it back to the way it was.

2. restart the car.


I never really knew how much power was under the hood till i felt it all released without electronics controlling it

When the weather warms up a bit, I'll make a nice burnout vid with my car while in Dyno mode...and hopefully I can sneak my dad's SL55 out for some tire-shredding fun.

That is funny since most of us are trying to keep the wheels stuck to the pavement. Burning out is fun, but I broke my power steering doing donuts... don't know how.
So, no more burning out for me although I still can't keep that rear end hooked in the 2nd gear.

I've been playing around alot with my CLK 320 and the loaner C 230 (the new 2.5L V6 one) that I have while my CLK is in the shop and have not been able to do a burnout without using the brakes, I am hesitant to try it while holding the brakes because I am afraid I'll ruin the car, lol but I did once do a nice power slide when I came to a stop in the middle of a corner (stop sign) and both rear tires were in like half an inch of standing water! I immediately got this huge grin on my face and slammed the gas and opposite locked, it slid for about 4-5 feet which isn't much but it was so much fun, and me being the absolute speed freak that I am, of course I held the pedal down until redline in 3rd gear which was about 90MPH oh god I love CLKs.

now i am finally not the only one who thinks the 320 is a pretty quick car.... im not such a speed freak but i like to take off fast... just a habit but this car really picks up well

okay after reading this thread, i thought i would go out and see if a 320 engine can spin the tires.

Turned off the ESP... floored it, and sure enough.. nice tire noise, although tires dont seem to start spinning till about 15mph.. then the ESP light starts to blink. Did this a few times. fun for about 1 second. SO DYNO mode is the only way, other than a power brake (which i did once when i first got the car.... serious TIRE SMOKE) When i returned back to work, sure enough... RUBBER up the side of my bumpers :-(

Well I can tell you both the 500 AND the 350 will get the tires smokey. I just got back... about one hour ago from a dealer hear in Atlanta area. I test drove a 2006 CLK500 and a 2006 CLK350. Since speed matters to me... I tested the torque for each. In the 500, I just turned off ESP and mashed down from a stand still... no brake involved... Got a good squeal and the thing took off like a bat outta hell... I was truly impressed. In the 350... same scenario but from take off... not really anything. SO... I power braked the 350 until the car went a little sideways then let go of the brake pedal... now that was fun. The 350 has a decent deal in my area right now but I really like the 500's off the line power. Unfortunately.. the 500's power will cost 59K as opposed to the 350's 45K sticker...

The CLK500 is in my garage right now... the salesman gave it to me overnight to decide which one I wanted... 350 or 500. I just took pictures in my garage...

im sure youll like either one! just keep in mind the 350 only has 35 less hpyou can always make those up with some mods...

the horsepower difference is small... I agree.
The torque is waaaaay different... 350 has 258 lbs ft and the 500 has 339 lbs ft.

I drove both cars back to back... by myself... NOOOO salesman in the car. I keep forgetting I am an old man now... Dealer salesmen see and think... "huh.. harmless..." muhaaaaa.. Anyway... I really gave both cars a thorough test. 500 is much more sporty handling and speed, 350 is very respectable for a 6cyl. It reminds me of my 2002E320... but with more low end grunt... I did notice at 60 mph... they both similar pick up getting me to my next BIG speedo mark.... This is explained b/c torque is what you feel when you mash from a general stand still... HP is what sends you to top speed....

BOTH very well designed cars and I will happy to have either one ...
