Lightbulb CD-Changer Option...

Hi All,

Just want to pass on this information. If you want to add a CD-changer to your W209, you can tell the dealer to add Option 819 to your order. It's a new factory installed 6-disc CD changer for the new CLK/E class and it goes into the glovebox. The cost is $400.

However, if the car is already been built, like mind, it can still be done at the VPC (Vechicle Process Center). The Option # is different, 038, although it's the same thing as 819.

I don't know if it's dealer installable but I doubt it. $400 is much better than their $800 traditional trunk changer.

Good luck!
Ben

Thanks for the post & to my knowledge the dealer will not be able to add the CD to the E/CLK if not ordered from the factory. Don't quote me on this, so if anyone know for sure (RAB or andylien) please let us know.

I heard if the dealer installs it, it's $800, if at the factory, it's $400. But don't quote me on this, this is what I heard.

My dealer told me only at the VPC is it considered "factory". I am going to drop him a note and see if he "ordered it"

Here's my question and answer.

I know we spoke about getting a CD player installed at the VPC
because the price was $400. Have you conveyed this to the VPC?

Yes, but they aren't doing them for some reason.

Glovebox? What happened to the new in-dash changer on the E? (and CLK?)

The official word:

"Factory installation begins in 8-1 decade for most models. Please note that effective with 8-1 decade production, VPC's will no longer install CD-Changers. The CD-Changer can only be added or deleted using option code 819 to units prior to the standard cut-off date for factory Changers. Please remember that the 819 factory installed CD-Changer code does not apply to SLK or E-Class Wagon models, in which case code 038 must be used.

For vehicles requiring the VPC installed CD-Changer (option code 038), effective Wedneday, July 24, the changer can only be added as follows:

-For Priority One vehicles, option code 038 may be added prior to customs clearance (prior to phase code C4 - arrival at the port).

- For Priority Two and Priority Three vehicles, option code 038 may be added up until time of vehicle receipt at the VPV (up to and including phase code C4 - arrival at the port).

Please note that your Distribution Liaison will also no longer be able to add the VPC installed CD-Changer to vehicles after the above phase codes."

In other words, their way it's $400, anything else and it's your dealer's price you'll pay. ...RAB
