How about these stats!!
I just got the september motor magazine (australia). It has a comparison between the M3, clk500 and the HSV GTO Coupe; (HSV being GM Holden's answer to AMG), this car is coming to the states restyled and rebadged under the guise of a Pontiac GTO.
Anyhow the acceleration stats for the CLK 500 were as follows:
0-60 Km/hr 2.8
0-100 km/hr 5.74
(62mph)
compared to the M3 SMG 11
0-60 Km/hr 2.6
0-100 km/hr 5.38
(62mph)
the acceleration differences are really just academic, I realise the M3 has better sports handeling though

also, i forgot quarter mile times are:
M3 13.59
CLK 500 13.94
By the way the times in this M3 SMG 11 are faster than for the manual M3, so if you are at the light in your CLK 500, have a go at the M3 next to you!

Porsche Cayenne S, MB E430, & M3
two different breed. Yes for lack of better words, they will become rivial by numbers (price and times). But the M3 is definately more sporty and CLK500 is 100% more luxury.
I like them both. U win either way u go.
