Rev limiter

How come if you try to rev a Mercedes while at a standstill, it won't rev any higher than about 4200 RPMs (depending on the Benz)? I realized that if you let the car roll to about 10mph or over and pop it in neutral, you can get it to redline. I just wish you could get it to redline while standing still. It annoys me that I can't rev my car all the way. Anybody know why Mercedes set it up like this and if there is any way to remove this rev limiter? Thanks a lot.

BMW FTW
All of them are like this. Its not good for the engine mounts to rev hard not to mention possible overheating. Why do you want to rev your engine to redline in the first place? It is just plain not good for the engine and connection components in many ways. But he if you want to pay the money for new mounts go for it not to mention using more oil that we need to conserve lol.

That's why I have warranties, Lol. I was driving my friends BMW X5 the other day and I realized you can rev it all the way to redline so I was just wondering why you can't do it in a Mercedes. My old Escalade allowed you to pass redline when revving it. I wish I could do it with my car because I got the Eisenmann exhaust and it would sound real cool

as previously noted, i would guess its a safety feature, its the same as asking why can most cars turn off traction control fully, yet when you want to peel out in a benz after turning ESP off , it still intervenes

a toy
It's to protect the engine and the components. The high rpms cause severe abuse while standing still. Last month I overheated the power steering pump while creating a smoke show in the Buick.

Ok, thanks everyone. 4200 RPMs sounds good enough anyway, lol.

Yow Rocky, I'm only saying this because i have the exact same setup as you do. Our cars are loud enough bro. Stand behind your exhaust and have someone rev it. It'll kill your ears, not that you haven't experienced it already.
