I hate Chris Bangle!

I love BMW's....but what Chris Bangle is doing to BMW has turned me back to MB.

I have been a BMW man for years and would much rather buy a bmw over a mercedes. But this last batch of cars, courtesy of chris bangle has resulted in me going totally for mercedes benz.

How are their sales going these days with their new designs? If a diehard BMW fan like me will not even look at BMW they must be losing enormous numbers of sales.

an old Z, of course....
I hate to say this, but....

I actually like the new BMW designs. The 7 series has really grown on me to the point that I considered waiting to buy a new car until the new 5 and 6 series came out....

I realize that I am in the minority

I still cant stand them , but i must admit i can stand them more than when they first came out. Maybe it is the look of the future and we will all feel like fools in a few years time when all the cars start looking that way, i hope not though
Good on you for the honesty Z-dude maybe you are an early adapter.

Question

This new 7-series confuses me! That new iDrive system is strange and unworthy. I especially don't like that hunk of plastic they call an automatic shifter at the steering column. In that case you even have to learn how to put your new car in gear. It's not made for racing and is something that I think would drive car enthusiasts away! I like the other Bimmers and I hope that BMW Coporate doesn't do that to those or even worse, Mercedes do something similar to their next S-class!!!!

Well, actually, sales of the new 7 series are outpacing the old model in the first 6 months of production worldwide. Chris Bangle has said that BMW needed a new direction due to the exhausting of the current design theme. I actually agree BMW's were getting a little 'tired' but can't say I agree with the new direction. Also, keep in mind several years ago the BMW board approved a new, radically designed 7 series, so it's not all Mr. Bangle's doing. With a couple exterior adjustments, the new BMWs could actually be quite good looking, but as it stands the rear of that BMW reminds me of a Chrysler.

The new 7 series isn't that bad. The only thing I don't like is the rear design. Front and side profiles are still very reminiscent of past BMW's.

The new 6 looks pretty good as well. I'll reserve final judgement until I see the final prod car though. I wouldn't say those pics resemble a chrysler.

Anyone know when the new 5 is coming out?

iDrive is unintuitive and foreign. who has -- or wants to spend -- time learning the system? i don't. i didn't spend time to figure out the needlessly complicated COMAND and i wouldn't waste it on the 7. it's enough trying to decipher twists and turns of dbase and web apps. and the 7 body -- again, especially at the rear -- improves the standing of the MB 209 in my eyes. who's running these companies???? perhaps those einsteins should consider providing CD/DVD tutorials for each car, from this day forward. (i can't wait for someone to write back that they do already.)

3 Series blunder

I agree, BMW's are by far more sporty. However...Chris Bangle is taking the BMW out of BMW's. I have driven the new 7, and you are totally disconnected from the car experience.

Look at the front end of the 2002 3 Series Sedan...

What's with the smiling front end?

The 6 series doesn't look very good from the side..

And, I see a B-pillar. Am I the only person who sees the lack of a B-pillar as a HUGE style/selling point for the 209?

I totally agree! The absence of a B-pillar makes it a real coupe!

Used to be a CLK430
Hey guys, while I love my CLK 430, the new 6 series will be my next car!! The first time I saw the new 7, I almost puked, but I have grown to love it, and now think it is the boldest, most elegant vehicle on the road. Sorry to disappoint all the die-hard MB fans, but Bimmer is taking over!
