For my 2004 CLK320 Coupe, I noticed that when I set the climate control in Auto, the air would come out only from the front vents, not from the top or bottom. I checked this out when I went on a trip recently. I noticed that for 5 hours, no air came out from the bottom vents for the whole time.

Is this normal?

 

When you click AUTO, it sets everything to the best point. It distributes the air through the vents that will cool/heat the car the quickest and the best-- and that's what your two front vents will do.

So yes, that's normal.

 

OK. I thought the Auto setting will distribute the air flow between all the vents (front, top, bottom).

 

It depends on the temperature of where you are at. If it's really hot then it will continue to blow from front only. There is a setting which can be programmed so the floor vents don't come on with the a/c in auto mode. This is done via Star Diagnose and your car may be programmed this way.

 

i hate this ac unit, i barely feel anything unless its at 5 bars

 

it never gets cold enough... i cant stand it. my navigator has better ac.
