CLK500 Upholstery choices

I'm very close to purchasing a CLK500, but the one point keeping me from making the plunge is the pebble-textured leather upholstery - just not my taste.

Does anyone know whether the two-tone upholstery color options come with the same pebble texture, or if instead they use a smoother, more supple leather? The reason I ask this, other than wishful thinking, is that I saw a photo on the Web (I think it was an MB South Africa site) of two-toned seating for the CLK that seemed to be of a smoother, less-textured variety.

Good news here will save me from buying a Lexus GS, instead

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I've seen posts on this board from buyers who have ordered two-tone leather combinations...did any of you actually see the upholstery before you purchased?

If so, I'd really apreciate hearing a description of the two-tone leather texture.

Thanks very much!

From what I can tell the booklet that I got form the dealer the leather all looks textured. The two tone looks like it is textured. I would check with dealer.

I've spoken with two dealers, and neither has seen the two-tone interior. As you might expect at the rollout of a new model, they are less interested in answering questions about what is orderable than they are in selling what they have on hand.

At this point, I know more about available options just from reading the MB brochure than they do, so I have greater trust in the folks who read this board to give me the right answer.

Sad but true.

On the W208, the Nappa leather option (designo options and on the CLK55 AMG) that leather had a smoother surface and was a softer leather right from the beginning. Nappa is a premium grade leather and will have fewer blemishes, scars, etc.

The standard leather has a textured surface and is a little stiffer at first - the Nappa leather or designo models might be added after the MY2003 introduction...I suppose MB is trying to get the model launched first.

I've noticed that some of the W208's options are not being offered initially (multi-contour seats, designo) so these might be added in sucessive years.

Thanks for your reply, Hal. In-line with your comments, I've concluded that the image I saw on the MB South Africa site was for the CLK55. It's a shame there's no upgrade available for the rest of the CLK model lineup. The MB brand managers need a wake-up call here, just as they do with the lackluster sound system.

This makes my CLK decision a lot more difficult...
