what? it sounds like mbspy is saying it will have a STEEL roof.

"The relatively slight camouflage shows the faux cloth roof - the car will have a steel folding roof."

whoo hoo! sounds good to me.

Boycott

What are the chances that there will be a mass boycott of the CLK Cabrio if it shows up with a cloth roof instead of the folding metal one that has all but been promised?

Focus groups?

If I recall correctly there is a commentary on autospies.com referencing focus groups being asked their reaction to a soft top version of the new SL. Autospies suspected that such might be in conjunction with a SL350 introduction. Alternatively, Mercedes may have been fishing for the likely reaction to trashing their prior plans to incorporate a folding hardtop on the CLK Cabrio and instead opt for a less costly soft top. The fact that the question is even being asked with regard to the SL suggests Mercedes could go either way on the CLK as well and that they could well have designed the Cabrio so that either option remained open to even include the possibility of offering both a soft top and a folding metal roof on the Cabrio. (Maybe a soft top 350CLK and a folding hardtop 500?)

I saw those new CLK Cab pics. If you look at the rear and rear side pics, it doesn't appear that the trunk lid is wide enough to accommodate a folding hard top. Compare it against the SLK and SL. I still think MB is planning a soft top on the CLK Cab. With that said, I have a 430 Cab and believe it is fine. A folding hard top would be great, but even in Chicago winters, I find the soft top acceptable.

I have a question!!!

If it is going to be a hardtop convertible, what will be the difference between the coupe and the convertible (other than the top of course)?

Right now the only cars with the vario roof is the SLK and SL. Both of which do not have a coupe version. The CL does not have a vario roof or a soft top. I was just wondering that if the CLK came out with a vario roof, they might as well discontinue the coupe.

*going bananas*

Assumedly it would be slower, as they have to add structural rigity and safety systems without a roof, plus add on the weight on the roof. And of course it would be far more expensive, probably 7 grand or more.

Any update on cabriolet?

Any further word on whether the CLK cabriolet will have the hardtop and whether it might become available as early as March of 2003?
