First round of Mods on the CLK

Just added a Raised Thumb ALCANTARA / Leather steering wheel to my sons 2007 209 WITH Paddle shift....on the late cars it CAN Be Done!

Btw The CLK did NOT have Paddle shift before the change

http://www.eums.net/car/wheel-up-shift.jpg

Then added a set of Xeons...and the AMG Smoked Tails...and a Nav...

Thanks to Steve @www.MBENZNL.com

It's probably safe to say he'll recommend Steve @www.MBENZNL.com since that's who he got the parts from...

The early 209s will NOT support the DVD nav.....

It could be done...But the cost to replace EVERYTHING to support the DVD nav would not be worth it!

It can be done on the late 209s It requires a code string to version code it Via the SDS aka Star...It Wont work on the Early 209s

I think what is misconstrue is that most would think "late 209s" could mean late model in most cases, well, that is why it was confusing for me, because a late model would reference a 03-04 W209’s…

If there was a way to get it, I would def. be interested.

Stupid question.... why can't early 209s have paddle shift? It's just a switch, just wire it in parallel with the shifter tilt switch

Well its NOT That Simple..

1 The Contacts for the steering wheel are on a ring that uses resistance
for all the functions on the multifunction steering wheel...

2 The Transmission control unit does NOT have the updated software for the paddle shift

Maybe I wasn't clear in my previous post. The transmission in my car (04 CLK 500) already supports a tiptronic mode - I can move the console selector left or right to down or upshift. What I was saying is to extend that capability to shift selectors on the steering wheel by means of wiring two switches in parallel - those switches being the "paddles" - so when you depress the paddle it closes the circuit as if you moved the shift selector left or right.

The hardest part would be retrofitting the paddle hardware into an older style wheel. Even if the new paddles used something other than micro switches (which I doubt) it would be easy to convert. I see no reason it can't be done.

You are right. It can be done. Some has done it and I have seen it.
