I decided to changed my oil this time and was surprised that the manual didn't show how to reset the FSS. Please help.

I have an 03 CLK500 and I resent the service indicator when I change the oil and filter. It is done in the "on board computor"...the instructions are in the manual.

Believe me, mine is an 2006 Clk 500 Cabrio and it not in the manual. It only mentioned that the FSS should be reset at every oil change. The dealer or shop should know how. Or go to the dealer and ask for a print out procedure. I've owned Slk 230, Clk 430, CL 55 and the manual showed how to reset the FSS but the 2006 model does not. The 2006 model is also the first year model with the deleted oil dipstick.

I wouldn't put it past MBZ to lock you into your dealer service department.
I would look at a 2003 owner's manual for the procedure and see if your on board computer has page/setting to do the reset. Probably not, but worth a look.......

I have called up my local MB service desk and told them I had a technical question. When the SA got on the phone, I asked him a question about resetting my sunroof (it was not opening and closing correctly) and he just told me how. Never asked about my warranty. He also told me to just call if I ever had a question like that so I wouldn't have to bring it in to the service center.
Maybe try calling in....

I thought about call them up but since my car will be in the dealer this Wednesday for repair work (leak valve cover gasket and leak rear main seal with out 18K miles), I will definitely ask for the procedure.

Today I brought my car in for warranty repair work on oil leak engine and tranny (can't believe it leaking all ready with only 15K miles). I asked my service advices to print out a "FSS" reset procedure for me and to my surprised, he said that it can ONLY be reset throught their lap top computer. And I was SHOCK when he told me that the dealer WILL NOT reset the "FSS" (new policy) unless the service is done by them. He said that the dealer use to reset the "FSS" per customer request but some dump *** people thinking that all the services were done on their car, when it not. So they blames it on the dealer for their engine problems. The car is really annoying me right now because it keep reminding me negative miles before service. If I don't reset the FSS soon, the service history show that I changed my oil late when in reality, I changed my oil every 5K miles.

Try this

1. Turn key in steering lock to position 2.

2. Within 4 seconds press button 0 twice.

3. The present status for days or distance is displayed. Within 10 seconds turn electronic key in steering lock to position 0.

4. Press and hold button 0, while turning electronic key in steering lock to position 2 again. The present status for days or distance is displayed once more. Continue to hold button 0.

After approx. 10 seconds a signal sounds and the display shows 10,000 miles (or km's)for approx. 10 seconds.

5. Release button 0.

No. My 2004 CLK (European model) also has no dipstick.

I recently bought a MB 'measuring stick' from the spares counter, that is graduated in mm.

How did you manage to do an oil change yourself without a dipstick?

Here's the steps for my 2006 Clk 500 Cabriolet:

With the display in the "default" normal driving position, (this should be speed or temperature)

1) Put the key in the ignition
2) Turn the key on to ignition position (1 click only)
3) Within 3 second after the ignition is turned on to position 1, push the "reset" *** 3 times. A display Voltages manual should appear on your cluster.
4) Now turn the key to ignition position 2 ( 2nd clicks)
5) Use the arrow up/down command on your steering wheel to change your screen on your cluster until you see the "Services A/B" indicator on your cluster.
6) Within 3 seconds once you see the "Services A/B " indicator appear on the cluster, press and hold the reset *** for at least 3 seconds.
7) You now should see the "Service interval" manual on the cluster and it will ask you if you want to reset the "Service interval".
8) Within 3 second after you see the "service interval" manual appear on your cluster, press and hold the reset *** one more time for another 3 seconds.
9) You now should see a message appear "Service interval" has been reset.

I also discovered how to turn on/off the ESP completely for dyno test when I was going through trying figure out how to reset my FSS.

DYNOMOMETER ESP ON/OFF PROCEDURE:

1) Repeat steps 1-3 above
2) Use the arrow up/down on your steering wheel to change the screen until you see "Dynomometer testing" manual
3) Use the "-/+" on your steering wheel to turn the ESP ON/OFF for Dynomometer testing.

Since all 2006 models doesn't came with the oil dipstick and you can't really check it. I also discovered how to check the oil level as you would check your oil with the dipstick and know exactly how much oil is in your engine. Don't get confuse this procedure with the electronic on board oil level check like on the old models that only check oil level to see if the oil level is low or high. My new discovered procedure check to see EXACTLY how much oil is in your engine.

CHECK OIL LEVEL:

With the display in the "default" normal driving position, (this should be speed or temperature).

1) Repeat steps 1-3 (of the FSS service reset procedure)
2) Now use the arrow up/down command key on your steering wheel to change the screen manual on your cluster until you see
oil level "_/_" on your screen.
3) Now turn the ignition key to position 2 (2nd clicks)
4) The oil level "_/_" now will appear with a numbers. Mine showed 6.9 right after engine turn off and 10 mins later it showed 7.5

OK - the displays available on your 2006 are obviously different to those on my 2004. My display will tell me to add/delete x liters, as required. But only if the oil is at the correct temperature, and has had a 10 minute settle period. Otherwise it refuses to give a readout. That is just too much delay during top-ups.

How do you know that 6.9 & 7.5 are the right numbers? Are they from your manual?

1) That part of the feature is still the same as mine. Since mine does not came with the oil level dipstick, there's a difference procedure how to check the oil level like you would normally check it with a dipstick. If your car does not come with the oil dipstick, you should be able to use my procedure to check the oil level.

I guess that I must have a 'transition' model. Your procedure does not work in my early 2004 CLK - assuming that the 'reset knob' you refer to is the protruding stalk just to the left of the fuel gauge/speedo. It's what I press to reset milages, etc. No new displays come up as you have described - nor does my manual specify those oil levels. I wish they did, you have a useful facility there.

It could be because mine is a 2006 model and Mercedes did changed alot. Yes, the 'reset knob' is the protruding stalk just to the left of the fuel gauge/speedo. Another words, on you cluster, your MUST select the "temperature" display screen and leave it there. Then remove the key and re-insert the key then start your procedure.

I had another shot at your procedure today - and guess what, it did work after all!

My problem was what you referred to as the 'default' display of speed or temperature. In my car the default seems to be the display that was last used. In my case it is always the comprehensive one with Time after start, Distance, Av speed, Av mpg, Temp, Trip mileage.

However, I do have a simple display of Temp & Trip mileage, so I tried your procedure with that one showing. Lo! & behold!

I read:

I'm glad you've figured it out. So now I know mine procedure work on 2004 Clk, 2006 Clk and 2007 C-class.

Open the sunroof all the way. Let go of the button. Then push and hold sunroof button in the open position again (the same direction as when you opened it). Do not let go for 12 seconds. This should reset the sunroof.

I have a 2004 CLK500. I would suggest you purchase service manual from MB. I ordered mine direct from MB--the manual should describe the reset function as well as many other questions you my have.
