Premium gas in Germany

I have been told that there is not a requirement for premium gas in Germany for the CLK. When a car is imported to the US, Mercedes requires premium to increase the gas milage for regulatory purposes. Any truth to this?

Thanks,

dnhill

Mercedes
I don't know if it's for regulatory purposes, but the CLK can run on lesser grade fuels (though they don't recommend it), but you will get less gas mileage.

I just moved back to the states after living in Germany since 2001 and I will tell you that the premium fuel requirement is still there so please do fill up with premium while you are there. It is not worth the lower cost because it just runs a lower MPG. The ratings are different: It has two numbers like 100/94 it is the second number that counts for us in the US. They also carry a 104/100 which is a super premium I guess....I ran this one when going for spirited drives. I dont know if it even made a change in the engine so that Siper Premium could have been all psychological!!

But all in all you will have a blast..You will probably drop it off in Bremerhaven right!! That is where I dropped off my CLK when I came back. Well anyway have fun and take lots of pics for memories...oh and take it easy on the Hefeweizen (German Beer).

Greg
