Will stock rear 245/40R17 wheels fit on the front?

I have a 2004 clk500, and I have two full sets of stock rims. I was going to put the narrow ones (225/45R17) on all four for winter, and upgrade to the 4 equal sized wider ones for the summer.

My questions:
- Will the stock 245/40R17 fit on the front?
- Will it ever rub?
- Will it "improve" handling and not hurt ride, etc? Any downside? Will it make the highway driving more "squirrelly?"

Under hard cornering, I think I found that the car had some understeer, so the wider tires should put more oversteer into the front. What do you guys think?

Did it change the handling at all?
