2003 CLK 500
My window got smashed yesterday.
So either vandals or (more likely) thieves got to my new CLK 500 yesterday morrning at around 5am. It seems like they tried to smash the driver-side window 3 times but failed, leaving only 3 smudge marks. Then I guess they got frustrated and just smashed the windshield. Any know if Mercedes uses any special type of glass for these windows because I'm a little surprised that the side window didn't break.

First - sorry to hear about your car. Some people should just be shot.
Second - I replaced my wife's C240's windshield recently, and the winshield is not made by PPG (a popular glass mfg) someone else is making for MB. Don't get me wrong, you can get the OEM MB glass from other parties.

I recently saw a TV show on car theft here in England and they showed this glass for the side windows which is coated in a special film to give it extra resistance to a hard knock to give the driver more time to think about what to do if you are getting car jacked that way so maybe Mercedes has used this glass to add an extra safety feature.
maybe!!
