I am planning to buy a 2002/03 (new/current shape) CLK, which is about £10,000-14,000 in price. I haven't decided yet on which engine to get because for that price i see everything from clk 240-500.
Now my concern is that this car was made at a time when Mercedes were losing their reputation for making reliable cars. Loads of faults would occur. Major one being, turn the key and the car doesn't start or driving then the engine shuts down.

I want a manual also. At first i thought "get a BMW 3 Series e46 model". Cheaper, more fun to drive (they say???) and no reliability problems, however it just doesn't look as pretty.

When buying a CLK, what should i look out for?

I invite your answers

too answer at least some of your questions lol

reliability - should be absolutely fine as long as u get Mercedes full service history, its just electrical stuff u need to look out for, engine is bulletproof.

i assume u are in UK as u put £ signs, u may just get into a clk 500 for about 13,000 but will not be black.(likely blue).

when u search auto trader in the age box put up too 7 years, because if u put up to 5 years u won't get some of the 2002/03 cars

also sorry to say man but its a merc meaning automatic only(thats the only one u want). Mercedes has done better i think starting about 2006 with manuals but i would def recommend automatic only.
