Clk-500 W209 or W208
I wen't to my Mercedes-Benz dealer today for service. While waiting, I wen't to the showroom. Of course I sat on the W230 and dreamed for a while (still 2 1/2 years more before I get one, I always buy my cars, never lease them, so I have to save).
So I came down to earth and looked for the CLK-500, to compare with mine, I like the new front grill and headlights, don't like how it looks from the side, the rear is even worst (looks like a Volvo!) , so I sat inside....feels like a woman car to me. Too much luxury, delicate, Lexus like, I hated it! I like my car much more now, much more muscular. I will be fine for the next 2 1/2 years.
Just my personal opinion, no ofense to anybody.

IF IT IS THAT BIG OF A DEAL FOR YOU TRADE IT IN. HOW DOES IT DRIVE AND HOW WELL DO YOU LIKE THE INTERIOR? IF YOU WOULD TRADE IT IN WHAT WOULD GET AND WOULD YOU BE HAPPY WITH IT FIVE MONTHS DOWN THE ROAD?

momba, I think you just have to learn to appreciate the back because there will come a point when you are looking at your parked car from behind next to a whole row of other cars and thing, 'mine is the only one that stands out, its beautiful'.

So I say stick with it and you will like it, maybe you are in the wrong frame of mind when you look at it due to the bad comments made by the old CLK owners/lovers?

I also bought my 209 about 5 months. Right from the start i loved the interior and how it drives, but as you, i was skeptical about the exterior. There are 3-4 208's at work, and initially i honestly thought they (the 430) looked better, but now the 209 really grown on me and the 208 start to look a tad dated. Wait a year, and this will be even further enhanced

But if you don't like it after 5 months, sell it. You shouldn't have to live with a car you don't like when you're 19.

Britton,
how do you like you color. I remember you were thinking long and hard about your choice. I think the Black Opal looks fantastic. I almost regret for not taking one too (mine is solid black), but i try not to think that way.

I was at the car wash yesterday and a 2002 CL-500 pulled in behind me and at first I thought it was another CLK-500. When I got out of my car I realized it was a CL. I think the front end of the CLK-500 blows away the front end of the CL and the rear does not really affect me. I am getting thumbs up from alot of people when they see the car.

I SAW THE CAR FRIDAY AND IT LOOKS GREAT I THINK THAT THE 2003 CLK 320 LOOKS FANTASTIC IN A DARKER COLOR. I WILL BE PICKING IT UP WED. THE DEALER IS PUTTING ON A INVISIBLE BRA FRONT, SIDE MIRRORS AND LIGHTS.
I AM GETTING THE INTERIOR PROTECTION SINCE I GOT THE ASH INTERIOR.
I WILL TRY TO POST PICS WHEN I GET IT. JUST WONDERING IF YOU HAVE ANY POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE FEEDBACK ABOUT YOUR CAR SINCE YOU HAD IT FIVE MONTHS ?

The clear bra is a good idea, but what do you get for the interior protection? The only problems I've seen with the ash or oyster are the shoe scuff marks and the dark wear marks on the driver seat back from belt lines.

IT IS A COATING OF SOME SORT FOR THE INTERIOR TO PROTECT FROM DIRT IT IS PUT ON THE LEATHER AND CARPET. I HAVE HEARD ALOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD COMPLAIN ABOUT THE ASH INTERIOR ABOUT HOW IT CAN GET DIRTY EASY. I WILL BE KEEPING THIS CAR ALEAST TEN YEARS OR MORE I HOPE. I LIVE IN WISCONSIN AND WITH THE SNOW AND SALT THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA.

CLK320 (w209)
Britton et al,
here is my feedback for about five months of ownership.

Positive:
The interior. For its design, look, feel, and room. I'm 6'6, and i have never owned a more comfortable or had more combined head and leg room in any car before. Pretty impressive for a coupe. My interior is stone, and everyday i drive it, i still smile of the light, airy, and classy look. It's hard to beat in any car at close price range. Also the pillarless design makes a more spacious feel even with the windows up, especially important for a tall person who is sitting far back normally close to the b-pillar. The only thing i'm not 100% keen on is the steering wheel (same as SL i believe). It also very quiet, and drives very comfortable and well, but rolls a bit too much when cornering. Seems well screwed together. No glitches.

Negative:
The engine is quiet, but when pushed, i don't like the sound of it above 3000 rpm. My wife has a ML320, same sound. Harsh, and not as sweet as the old in-line six. Too bad Mercedes changed to V-6 and didn't stick with the I-6 as BMW. Also the gearbox switch gear a bit odd sometimes. Not sure the driver adaptive S/W is perfect.

All in all .... its a classical MB coupe design, with if you go back in time, all the classical attributes ...... Luxurious, comfortable, good looking, and fast.

I'm happy with it. Would cleary buy it again.
