Snow Tire Question
Does anyone know if 16 inch staggered rims from and SLK 7.5 and 8.5 wide will clear the brakes on my CLK 500? I want to use them for snows and drop down to a smaller tire. I've searched throughout the forum, so I apologize up front if the answer is there......I can't find it.
Thanks

He's right - 16" won't fit front caliper.
245/40R17 (stock rims) DOES fit fine on all four. I tested it personally. In fact, I've tried up to 255/40R17 on all fours, and it fits without clearance problems. 245/40R17 is what I will be doing for my summer setup.
I recommend 225/45R17 for the winter on all fours. The extra width is a liability for the rear.
Note: this is not the size you wrote, which was 245/45R17. This is not a proper size for your car.
If you want to hear something odd, but true: most 225/45R17 tires will fit on a rim from 7 to 8.5. You could put it on a wide stock wheel if you felt like it.
