05 CLK320 cabriolet oil change questions
I do all the maintenance and repair on my other cars (except body work and major repairs which thank heaven have been very few). So, I have been reading up on the Service B procedure, which seems like mostly inspections and an oil change. I am pretty confident the oil change should be a snap, but I have a few questions I cannot seem to get answers to here or elsewhere:
1) Exactly which oil filter wrench do I need for the 05 clk320 Cab?
2) Should I use a paper or polyester filter for the 13K oil change interval, or does it matter?
3) How do I reset the service indicator (I confess I have not had a chance to look at the manual to see if the procedure is there. Wife drives the car and we have not been home at the same time lately)?
4) Is the topside oil extractor (see this link: http://www2.northerntool.com/fuel-tr...item-33226.htm) capacity of 8 quarts large enough to handle this car? I know the benz oil capacity is 8 quarts, but it seems one would prefer a bit more capacity in the extractor just to be sure. I guess I am looking for confirmation that someone has used this tool to change their 8-qt. benz.
5) Does anyone know if there is an air powered extractor for a reasonable price (around $200 or less) that they recommend. Seems like it would be nice to use this method for my other cars and other fluids if it is acceptable (I'll research those issues separately). Air power would be a nice-to-have if reasonably priced. Otherwise the workout with the manual pump will be just fine.

The oil filter is in a very convenient location. It measures 2 7/8" to about 3" (I did not have a metric tape measure handy). So, that is about 75mm I think.
I could not find a dip stick for the crankase so I assume I'll have to just rely on refilling based on the 8qts as spec'd in the manual. The electronic checker should help. I read somewhere in one of the threads here about adding 7.5qts and then checking the reading before adding a bit more at a time. Seems reasonable.
I also checked the manual and MB is coy about telling the owner how to reset the service indicator. They explain how to clear it, but that is not the same as resetting it, apparently.
In addition to finding the oil filter, I also found a filter up near the windshield on the driver's side. I am assuming this is the cabin air filter. I did not locate the engine air filter, but found most other familiar items like the master cylinder, windshield washer refill, radiator filler cap, transmission dipstick, battery, etc.
Correction: What I thought was the transmission dipstick turns out to be the oil extration tube cover. It is red and back near the firewall on the passenger's side.

To address your questions:
1. Go on ebay and search for oil filter wrench. I bought mine from a vendor called El Paso Tools.
2. Use the new fleece type oil filter. It should come as a kit with the requisite "O" rings. For oil, use the recommended Mobil 1 0w40 or 5w40.
3. Not sure of the procedure on a CLK. Check your manual or one of the other CLK owners on this forum. I'm sure someone knows how to do it.
4. Any topsider or mityvac type of device will work and should hold all of the fluid necessary. I ordered one from harborfreight for something like $25. It still hasn't arrived yet because it's on back order.
5. I've seen these on ebay as well. Seems like it'll do the job but I haven't tried it.

i bought a kit of topsider vacuum and several filters for about $100 on ebay. you can buy the "wrench" to remove the oil filter cap for about $10. also check walmart they carry these also. at your service intervals use the fleece filters.
