It will be interesting that there will be a continuity from the 1995 E320 convertible to the 2010 E350 convertible.
That leaves the CLK out in the cold; I wonder if that means greater or lesser resale value in the distant future?

This part seems very interesting:
There is expected to be a buffet of versions/engines available: E200 - 184bhp, E280 - 231bhp, E350 - 300bhp, E450 - 354bhp, E550 - 428bhp, E63 AMG - 481bhp, E63 AMG Black Series - 525bhp, E250 CDI - 201bhp and E320 CDI- 252bhp. A hybrid version will also likely be available in two years after the official launch.

wow, i really hope this is not true. long live the CLK !!!
My Opinion is this...
-- think about it, especially when you're in early 20's male(like me).. you don't want to get a C class cause it's the cheapest class(no disrespect), SLK is very girly, S class is more for older people, SL is a 2 seater(my next car though) I was never a fan of the CLS either..forget THE suv;s....
- - i mean CLK500 is a perfect fit (for me atleast) - coupe, over 300 hp V8, sporty, fast, (mad props to the CLK320/350 owners too) .it would suck to collide it with the E class and call it the E class coupe in 2010, i hope this is all just rumors to hype up the new CLK ...
CAN all the CLK fans relate to this?

As far as I know the CLK name going away is a done deal. E class gets a convertible hardtop and C class gets a soft top convertible. Sort of like the BMW lineup, although the E convertible would be somewhere between a 3 series and a 6 series.

Still based on the C-Class platform, but re-badged to E:

In order to provide the luxury options that are not available on the C-class platform I believe the new coupe will be based on the E-class. This came out on motorauthority.com last week:
"The decision to move the CLK to the E-Class platform will allow Mercedes to introduce a new entry-level coupe and convertible based on the C-Class, finally providing the carmaker with a direct competitor to BMW’s popular 3-series two-door models.
The story doesn’t end there, however, as Mercedes is also expected to launch a new ‘shooting brake’ model based on the ConceptFASCINATION. The car will be the first production model based on the new E-Class platform and is first expected to appear in showrooms early next year.
The new E-Class Coupe and Cabrio are expected to make their world debut at next year’s Geneva Motor Show. "
The E coupe should be a nice car to drive and less boat-ish than the CL class.

Resale
So what does this mean for current CLK owners when it comes to resale value?
I have an 2005 CLK 55 AMG Cabrio fully loaded and hope to sell it in a couple of years for $32 (when it has 40,000 miles on it). Is this dream shot because of the E-coupe??

Your car has a resale value of 33-34K at the current moment (assuming it had 40,000 miles on it). You're probally looking at making back 25k three years from now.

If you can hold on to it until 2025, then you might be able to pull between $40k - $50k, assuming you still have less than 60k miles on it. Everybody loves a classic!

BUT ! i love my 500 still very fast, black on black tinted windows sexyness... and i hope as well that it is just hype and that they will not get rid of the clk ): how can they do this after they just made the beauitful 63 black series

Overall i think this is good move of MB. I allways thought my (now sold) CLK was a litte to narrow for its length/hight which i guess is due to its being based on the C-class. Back to the W124 approach where the CE was a coupe of the E. Drawback is that it might take a price hike where the CE was more expensive than the E when the CLK has been priced on par with the E (for the same engine).
