Are the 7 speed Trannys dual clutch?
I heard they were but I cant find it listed on the benz site

No 7 speed (722.9) is a dual clutch. The MB transmission is an auto, a dual clutch gearbox is a manual.
What MB DO have is a standard 7 speed and a 7 speed with a "wet clutch". Basicly it's like having a std clutch with oil cooling so it can handle very high torque loads and all the benifits and smoothness of a auto but the directness of a manual |
The 7G-tronic (722.9) is not a dual clutch transmission and has a torque converter.
The new AMG Speedshift MCT 7 replaces the torque converter with a wet clutch assembly that allows less slippage. It does use multi-clutch technology but its not the exact same as the SMG or PDK tranmissions used by BMW or Porsche The links below provide some information on how it works. http://paultan.org/archives/2008/02/...ft-mct-debuts/ http://www.emercedesbenz.com/Mar08/1...nsmission.html |
thanks for the information
its kind of confusing so the 63 series amg have a multi clutch not a dual clutch is the multi clutch started by Mercedes? in my 08 clk350 when I first start it off the line it sort of feels like a dual clutch, its hard to explain but starting off of 1st gear reminds me of a dual clutch in a M5 |
The MCT transmission is only in the SL63 for now as far as I know.

The CLK350 has a 7-speed automatic transmission and not a dual or multi clutch, unfortunately.
