Warranty for my new purchase?

I recently purchased an 05Clk 500 with 30K on it. I also purchased a 3rd party warranty of 5yr 75k for $3000. Now I am second guessing my self and questioning if I should have purchased it. I have the option of cancelling the warranty and getting back most of my money. What are your thoughts and experiences? Thanks

Were you not given the option of the MB CPO warranty? I would ask about that. I got the MB warranty for 3yr and paid $2800 and I am happy I did. It gives me the peace of mind if anything goes wrong Im covered. I read the 3rd party warranties you have to pay a deductible. Check a couple pages as someone else just asked about the same thing. Might give you some more answers.

2006 CLK 350 Coupe
Hi,

I just purchased an '06 CLK350 with 57k on it and bought 3rd party warranty. The MBZ warranty was done. I have had good luck with aftermarket warranties in the past but as a rule don't buy them, this was an exception. There does not seem to be any problem using it for legitimately covered failures. The last warranty I had on aCaddilac saved me big on a transmission repair and A/C repair. My warranty cost $2300, no deductable and is for 5 yr 50k. But later when I read the fine print the total liability for the overall life time payout is $5,000. In other words if I reach $5,000 it is done. They explained the warranty when I bought it but did not mention the $5,000 cap. I feel deceived by the sales person. Never the less repairs are expensive and you never fully know why a used car was sold. I added extra coverage on electronics so the power windows, command module, gps and other pricey repairs are covered.

It is transferable to another owner which may be worth something in the end either to add value or make the sale easier.

I usually do not buy warranty but these cars are complex and it provides some relief. Also rolled it into the price up front. Another advantage is $5000 will repair a lot and if it happens there is no cash outlay at the time of repair.

It boils down to a personal decision. I think odds are, I will use mine eventually, but next time I will read the fine print and take more time to look it over first.

One last thought. I bought out of state over the internet so did not feel 100% comfortable with the dealer as they know I would never see them again. If I bought from a relative or friend and knew all history maybe I would be more comfortable with no warranty.
