Broken tabs on front bumper

I was installing some new fog light bulbs and once I got underneath the front end I noticed this. Sorry for some blurry pics, pretty close to get my camera to focus.

Now there are no scuffs underneath that would lead me to believe the previous owner scraped a curb. And it doesnt look as though the bumper has been resprayed so what other reason would there be for these being gone and the area being cracked? I cant imagine they would have had a front lip as I dont think any modification was necessary.

Anything I can do to try and have the dealer take care of, or should this have been a responsibility on my part to inspect prior to taking ownership. (I have never looked at the underside of the front bumper before buying a used car)

Nothing the dealer can do but suggest a new bumper. Just tuck that piece in and hope that it stays or use super glue of some sort to ensure that plastic piece keeps in contact with the bumper. It more than likely happened when you or the previous owner hit a rock or some road debris.

Well I know its not from me. I have only had the car for 3 weeks and have babied it. That isnt the same picture. There are 3 different spots underneath that have been broken. And there is no way a rock could have done that or hitting a curb as I said there are no scrapes underneath. Thanks for the suggestion.

Your tabs may have been torn off accidentally by the last owner when reversing out of a parking space in a mall.
I have the sports suspension on my car so it is 1/2" lower than stock. On a parking lot bumper it is the perfect height to scrach the clips that hold the tabs but not always the underside of the bumper.

Yeah probably so. Just seems weird. Anyway the dealer said since its just cosmetic nothing will be done. No surprise there. I guess my next question would be will that effect a front lip from being installed?

lol i'm kind of in a similar situation... there's a baseball size of a piece missing under my bumper. i believe it was cracked or snapped off. i was also wondering if i can just install a lip kit over it to hide it lol.

Bump for any suggestion on the effect of a lip install. Would this be an issue to install one?

No problem installing a lip. I put the eurotek one on a few weeks ago and I had a couple tabs missing too. No problems at all. At least with that particular lip on a 06 and up. It just screws in. You hold it up with 3 people and drill about 15 holes into the bumper. I had my bumper off doing a headlight install so I just flipped it over and did it myself in about 10 minutes. Easier to install this way, but getting the bumper on and off is somewhat tricky if you have not seen it done before. I've done it 3 or 4 times now for people and can get it off in under 15 minutes and back on with new headlights in under a hour with a beer thrown in the middle. YMMV.

Cool, thanks for the info. By the way, YMMV is a new one. What does that mean lol.

Hows the rest of the clk look? Photos anyone?

Somebody treated that car like crap before you bought it to have all of that stuff cracked or bad.
Just recalling a statement you made to me.

Wow you truly are an idiot. You had 20 things replaced when you bought your car, all of which were items that are cracked and so forth. Good for you bud. I am not the only one who has had these cracked and I guarantee you my car is much better condition then yours and will stay that way. Stay out of my thread in the future bud.
