Auto lazy shift

My CLK500 automatic shifts pretty nicely under full throttle. However, under part throttle, it seems to have a lazy shift from 1st to 2nd gear and a little worse from 2nd to 3rd. The shift from 3rd to 4th is always quick.

To describe lazy, it feels like someone who is shifting a manual transmission slowly. In fact, under part throttle, my car almost sounds like a manual transmission - there is a noticeable delay between shifts 1-2-3 where it almost seems like the throttle is backed-off before the transmission decides to shift.

Anyone know what I'm trying to describe ? Does this sound normal ?

I understand exactly what you are talking about. You notice the delay even more after you drive other MB models (CL500 in my case.)

Well, I'm glad that I'm not alone in my perception although I guess I was hoping that this could somehow be 'tuned-out' or 'fixed'.

It's not that bothersome, especially since full-throttle response is good. But I would prefer a quicker shift at part-throttle. I expected a quicker, firmer shift with a transmission designed for a 302 hp V-8.
