Engine cutting out while driving
Earlier today while I was driving my CLK 320 CDI and approaching a junction, the engine stopped. Couldn't restart the engine and eventually called the Mercedes 24 hour recovery.
2 hours later, when I tried to demonstrate the engine not starting, the engine actually started, however the engine management light stayed on.
on 3rd try (starting and leaving the engine running) and turning the engine off, the engine management light also went off!!
The car was put on the truck and will be dropped to Mercedes. What I am now worried, is when the car is put on diagnostic equipment, with the engine management light being out, can they actually find a fault.
Would appreciate any suggestions or ideas as what caused the engine to stop at the first place and what I should be expecting from the reliability point of view.

It is most likely your crank position sensor. I had the same exact problem a couple of months ago. I only spent around $50 and put it in myself. Depends on how mechanically inclined you are. If you have a warranty than have them check that because the diagnostics system may or may not read with the light off.
