2005 CLK500 service question
I have a 2005 CLK 500 Convertible with 22,000 miles on it. Have only gotten service A at 8,000 miles and just got service B done at 22,100 today. Didn't go to the dealer as they wanted $595 for the B service, and an independent shop charged me $270. The MB dealership said that because my car was 5 years old, I also would need some fluid changes including:
Brake fluid
Power Steering Fluid
Transmission fluid
coolant flush
Spark plugs
some carbon filter for the A/C
and perhaps differential fluids.
Independent shop said brake fluid based on time, coolant based on time, and PS fluid maybe.
My question is Do I really need all these fluid changes if the car is used as a summer vehicle and only has 22,000 miles on it?
Thanks for the help.

Fluid changes are based on time and usage.
Brake fluid - It is hygroscopic a.k.a. it absorbs water which isn't good for the system. I change every 2 years or more often depending on my usage.
Tranny fluid - I change at 50k.
Power steering - I change when dirty.
Coolant - I flush it out every 2 years.
Oil - I change every 5k.
Diff - 50k
As for the cost, I consider it to be preventive maintenance. Plus it gives you peace of mind. I typically drive @ 12k a year total.

Change oil every 10k mi or every year if driving less than 10k mi.
Change brake fluid every 2 yrs. Tranny & diff fluids every 50k mi.
The coolant in this car is recommended to be changed every 100k mi or 10 yrs. However, it doesn't hurt to change it every 5 yrs or 50k mi.
Spark plugs every 80k to 100k mi.
Engine and cabin air filters every 30k mi or when they dirty upon inspection.
