R-class owner needs advice on buying an '05 CLK 320 for son
A nice '05 coupe unit has come up at the local dealer. I note that the engine changed in '06 and trans....Any advice on preferable years/choices?

I would suggest getting a 350 engine, if possible. The 320 has 215 hp with 18 MPG local and 26 highway. The 350 has 268 hp with 17 MPG local and 25 highway. The 350 has about 50 more horse power without compromising a lot of MPG. I think your son would appreciate a bit faster car. If getting a 350 isn't possible, stick with W209 because i think it looks better than the W208.

i would say it depends on your budget and the price difference and how old your son is.
if its a steep increase between the 320 and 350, stick with a 320.
as for you son, if hes 18ish +/- 2. he would love to get a 350.
have him test drive a 320 and 350. if he doesnt notice the power difference and not a car enthusiast. save yourself some cash and get a 320. its a bit slower but i dont drive THAT fast anyways. lol

Thanks everyone. Didn't know alot about the model - just that it's made in Germany and coupe looks great with the windows down.
To my mind the available power in the 2005 was adequate for a 16 year old - if not more than adequate.

Like many above have said, I think 320 is enough 
350 would ofcourse have more power but might not be necessary. A buddy of mine has a 320 and it is plenty peppy. I just got a 550 myself last week and it feels more like a heavy cruiser.
