SRS light and Restraint code Error on dash

Has anyone had this prob on their clk's? My srs light is on on the car, and 1 malfunction light keeps triggering saying restraint error etc...not sure if this had something to do with me taking the rear quarter interior panel off. Unplugged the seat belt air bag plug but plugged everything back up after I was done. Anyone have any suggestions to reset the light or fix it?

multiple malfunction lights and srs light 2004 clk 320 coupe

My clk has been glitching after driving in the rain. Now the srs and coolant level malfunctions are popping up. Is there a common problem with grounding or voltage? It also flashed a display malfunction at one point.. honestly threw almost every code I could image. 16 5k miles. Very clean and always dealer serviced

i removed my cluster once and the srs light came on, had to buy a code reader and hook it up to a old xp computer to reset it. the code reader was like $60 specific for mercedes, it works with pre 2004 clks i think. resetting the light from dealer is like what $100 maybe.

Pre-2005 cars can use Carsoft and some other less-expensive aftermarket MBZ-specific scan tools to diagnose and reset SRS errors.

Can you (anyone else) advise which reader you used to diagnose/reset the light?

I have a 2003 CLK500 with the SRS light on, and would like to have this taken care of sooner than later as I have to inspect it within 10 days in NY.

PS- I have seen something like this on ebay after searching carsoft- will it work for me?

Carsoft 7.4 should work on your MY2003. Beginning with MY2005, they changed things and Carsoft 7.4 no longer works on those.

the one i had looks just like this one, this is a really good price too. $42 shipped, that's as cheap as it gets. it's going to take a couple weeks for shipping i think. you have to hook it up to a old xp computer with a serial port.

Thanks! I actually have an older laptop with xp and serial port.

Going to give it a shot. The battery is shot on that laptop but I have an outlet nearby

Sorry for the additional question, but should I be getting a multiplexer for a few $ more? Does it do anything different?

Assuming it is shipped as pictured, the "black box" is the multiplexer, and yes, you must have that.

Thanks my first link did have the black box, but mentioned something about single function. So maybe its the same item, at a lower price.

I will go ahead with the first link. Thanks for your help!

Edit: seller is saying single function only reads the codes, and won't clear anything! I am hoping he might be wrong on this one... can anyone advise?

As an update, the seller is trying to tell me that the single function unit I linked earlier will not clear any codes. I need to upgrade to a multi function device (ebay item 371067082826)

Is there any truth to this?? Or is there no need to upgrade?

I believe your first link, although it shows photos of the multiplexer, does not include it. yes, you must have the multiplexer black box to talk to anything other than the ECU.

I am pretty sure it does, as its listed in the contents of the package. Anyways I told the seller I will upgrade to the multi function unit to be safe.

It may be that the "multiplexer" box in the "single-function" system is not a muliplexer at all. But it's odd, because to talk to the ECU with Carsoft doesn't even require a multiplexer - you can do it with a cheap and simple RS232-to-OBDII cable like the ones used with VAG-Com (VW/Audi aftermarket diagnosis system). Regardless, get the one with the multi-function capabilities.
