Hello Andy,
The reason is because the CLK55s run a Y-pipe setup, so to put an X-pipe before a Y-pipe is redundant and will not really do anything. X-pipe is meant for true dual exhaust setups (such as the W210 E55 AMG & etc).
If you do headers & 2nd cats, you may not want to delete the resonator. The headers & 2nd cats really open up the sound quite a bit and without the resonator in place you may get some unwanted resonance & droning. There is no power to be had by removing it so its highly recommended to keep it in place (especially on the CLKs/SLKs due to their specific exhaust design).
Certainly, AMS will consider a potential group buy. Minimum of 3+ would be enough to get discount pricing.

I have a custom true dual exhaust and I ran a 13.7at the track, most 500's run 13.8-.9 with ideal conditions and some are as bad as 14.2.I did this with crappy bald all season last fall. This shows you how much a good exhaust system helps. I have my factory cats on but no secondary cats no resantors no mufflers in short straight piped. XD

The headers were originally $1250 + $35 shipping, then free shipping was provided, and just a few weeks back the pricing has been reduced to $1199, and now $1199 w/ free international shipping. So the price has dropped quite a bit over time, no they were not always $1200 (and with potential group buy they can be had for even less). They have recently just dropped as of middle of Feb.
