Oil change in my '04 CLK500
OK, don't shoot me! I've searched and read the threads on oil changes. It's just my first time for this CLK 500 and I don't want to screw any thing up. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
First some background on me. I havn't posted on the MBWorld forum that much due to I really never have had any issues with my '04 CLK500. It's a great car! 60K +/- miles and it's ready for the "service B". I'd rather not pay the $300+ price at the dealer. I've always changed my own oil in my other cars, it's just the first time for this one and I want to get it right. My other cars are a C5 Corvette and a Chevy truck for work and I've always done my own work on them.
First. I'd like to drain the oil from the bottom. I know a lot of you guys pump it out but I'd feel better knowing that all the old oil is out. Here is a pic of my engine bay with the air cleaner cover remover. The red "capped" tube in the rear is the oil tube?? Just in case I decide to pump it out.

Second pic is the oil filter. Looks like a cartridge style filter?? Simple, just unscrew the outside canister and replace the element?? Does anyone have a pic of how and where all the O rings go?? After draining and replacing the plug, new gasket??, just fill as normal?

Owners manual says 8 qts to fill. Dealership used 0W-40 Mobile 1. Sound good to you guys? That's what my Corvette takes. Living in North Carolina it really doesn't get too cold here, rarely below 20 degrees but the summer can get warm, 90+.
Any other suggestions?? Maybe while I'm at it I'll replace the air filters too. I do have a NAPA close by. Anyone know what the drain plug gasket looks like or part number? Maybe I'll order online. Any Suggestions?
Sorry for all the questions!

I believe the oil excavation tube is NOT the red one but the one at it's 10 o clock position. (i tried to ms paint it for you but for some reason I can't)
The o rings on the oil filter are pretty obvious. Once you have it removed, you can see them very clearly. Use a screwdriver/razor and cut them off and slide on the new ones.
I've read 0w40 and 5w40 are recommended by Mercedes.

The cap with the red lock-out tab is for the transmission. Like henry47 said, the black capped tube is for oil extraction. For the oil filter, use a Mann filter. As for the oil, Advance Auto parts has a sale for Mobil 1 oil for 5 qt and filter for $30 until end of April. What I usually do is buy the oil and get the filter for another car.

I don't have an advanced auto parts so I can't take advantage of their special, but from the prices I've seen at Kragen, 0w40 and 5w40 are cheapest at my local mercedes dealer. They charged $7.20 a bottle compared to Kragen's $8.50 a bottle. Kind of ironic that the dealer is cheaper than someone else for ANYTHING

For the Moble1 that I use in the Vette I have found that WalMart or Costco usually has pretty good prices on the 0W-40 and 5W-40. Sometimes in single quarts and sometimes in 4 or 5 qt jugs. I'm thinking it's the same stuff you purchase all over since it is in sealed Mobile1 containers? They would not produce a cheaper version to sell in discount stores would they??![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
The service was free for the first X number of miles at the dealer since I purchased the car brand new. I noticed at the first oil change they used 0W-40 Mobile1 and at the most recent change they used 5W-40 Mobile1. I'm thinking since I live in a warm climate I'm going to use the 5W-40. If it really makes that much of a difference?
