2003 Mercedes CLK500
Exhaust
So I have another question now. This is for a 2003 CLK500, I am wanting to replace the stock exhaust system with something else. What I am going to do is remove the resonators, run stock sized piping, and go straight to an aftermarket muffler. So here's the question, knowing how free flowing the exhaust will be, what brand/series of muffler will suite my needs?
Rumble at low speeds and at idle, and louder more menacing at full throttle. I have heard a CLK430 with a flowmaster40 muffler and it sounds nice, but with a larger engine would it sound too loud? Is there a Magnaflow system or another series that would be nice?

magnaflow is universal. do you have a spending budget?
youtube clk500 exhaust or mb 500 exhaust. most likely your engine is shared with other platforms. at least it is for the 320. find an exhaust note you like. btw cameras have ****ty audio quality a lot of the time and dont do the car justice. i have also noticed that it sounds louder more aggressive when in motion as most sound clips so i guess its up to trial and error.

Well I don't want to spend a ton of cash, but I was looking to see if anyone else has Reyes it out like this, so I don't have to play trial and error. I have looked on the Internet a little, but haven't seen very many 500s. Also, what size is the pipe the car uses? So I know what size inlets for the muffler.

i believe its 2.5" piping.
i am going for the same thing you are. at first ima remove my resonator and see if i like it. i want a deeper growl, i would go for a aftermarket res with no muffler. i heard a youtube vid and it sounded sick.

i read that 2nd cats wont allow you to pass smog.
i want to avoid that although i have a year before my next smog. i rather not have to go through the trouble of installing and removing the part.

yup. broke my heart. but i did find a ca legal cat. i dunno if it would be better. i guess it depends on the # of Cell. on the euro CKS performance site, i found that they are selling 400 and 200 CELL cats. apparently the lower, the more free flowing. i guess i'll have to give magnaflow a call to see what is the cell for ca legal one.

my car still has the cats. did 3" straight back, resonator delete, magnaflow who knows muffler that we trimmed the outlet pipe on and remus dual tips. its on youtube somewhere when i was blowing up tires.
just search "clk500 remus" and it should be the first one that pops up.

2004 clk500 coupe
exhaust swap
i have installed the clk55 rear section that deletes the resonator and has the 2 amg tips on the left side. hangs from same location but i had to cut the flange off the 500 unit and weld it in place of the 55 unit at the front where it meets the catalysts rear Y joint. the 55 has a round type mating surface where the 500 has a lipped ring. a very easy conversion. sound is deeper but not annoying. my cutout in the bumper had to be opened up for the dual tip in place of the single oval.
