Amplifier stays on..
I have a 2004 CLK 500. I was rear ended mid-May and the body work has been completed. The car went to the dealer to clear codes and it was determined that the AC compressor was bad, so this was replaced. Then they determined that there was a noise coming from the speakers with the radio off, when the key was turned to the accessory position. They took the car to a Audio Specialist and he determined that the amp is staying on, whether the radio is on or off. Any idea what controls the amplifier. They all seem to be scratching their head and I am trying to get my car back...it has been 14 weeks already...

Conventional amplifiers all have a 'remote in' line that turns the amp on or off when it sees 12v. I've never ripped my trunk apart to take a look at the amp in the CLK but I can't imagine it would be different. If the amp is staying on all the time then it sounds like (just a guess here) maybe wires were cut and repaired as a result of your accident and a constant 12v has been used in lieu of the head unit controlled remote line.
I'd ask the body shop if they removed the amp or repaired wires while it was in getting fixed.
My 2 cents
