wheel alignment

Hi all,

I had a broken tire on freeway last week, and changed all 4 tired at a nearby Costco, the mechanic told me to do alignment, and he said I'd better to do it in dealership. He mentioned all European cars should always do the wheel alignment at the dealership.

Is that true?

Thanks,

Stephen

some dealerships sends their car out to a place to get the alignment done for them. i would say get it done at any place that gives alignment with a hunter machine.

I personally would agree with him. Independents and tire shops clamp on to the rim and then need to compensate the heads to perform an alignment. It uses a mathematical formula to determine true center. If you have ever noticed those 5 tiny holes in your factory mb wheels (and some aftermarket) those are for the MB alignment heads, and they define true center. Also in the aftermarket, I have never seen a romess gauge (mb tool for ride height) used. Every alignment at the dealer ride height is check and adjusted, or checked and compensated for.

Now I'm not saying you can't have it done elsewhere and not have a problem, I'm just stating what I would do...but what do I know.

A reputable Indie shouldn't be a problem. I have been doing it for years with different wheel sizes.

Agreed on Mercedes car because of the front camber kit bolts. Most non Mercedes shop doesn't even know about the camber bolts.

You shouldn't take your car to a non Mercedes shop.
